As a client, you are entitled to courtesy, consideration, and competent, diligent representation. You are entitled to your lawyer’s independent professional judgment and undivided loyalty, uncompromised by conflicts of interest.
You are entitled to a reasonable fee, an explanation of how fees are calculated and billed, and a written itemized bill at reasonable intervals. You may decline fee arrangements you find unsatisfactory.
You are entitled to prompt responses to your questions and concerns, information about the status of your matter, copies of papers upon request, and sufficient information to participate meaningfully in your matter.
Your legitimate objectives should be respected, including decisions about settlement, subject to court approval where required. You have a right to privacy and to have your confidences preserved to the extent permitted by law.
You may end the attorney-client relationship at any time, although court approval may be required and you may owe fees for services already rendered. You are entitled to ethical conduct and will not be refused representation on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or disability.
